Augusta Family Medicine Rural Training Site

With the recent announcement by HSHS/Prevea to end business operations in the Western Wisconsin market, the HSHS/Prevea Eau Claire Family Medicine Residency will be closing at the end of this academic year. This Program is no longer participating in the upcoming Match.

The Augusta Family Medicine Residency Program participates separately in the NRMP match. One resident is recruited for Augusta every other year. Augusta residents complete rotations in Eau Claire and have their clinic practice in Augusta. This unique combination of urban and rural opens up a full spectrum of training experiences for our Augusta residents. The clinic serves Augusta, Wisconsin, population 1500, as well as the surrounding rural community including an Amish farming community.

“Being an Augusta resident has been far greater than I could have expected. All the staff and faculty I get to work with are incredibly supportive. I have gained so many unique experiences from working in a rural clinic that reaches a diverse and under-served population. I feel incredibly lucky to be the Augusta resident in this program.” -Kiesha Onyeneho, MD, class of 2021

“My experience in Augusta has so far exceeded my expectations in terms of patient diversity, variety of conditions and diagnostic challenges, and support from the staff and faculty I am fortunate enough to work with every day. I am very happy with my decision to be the rural resident with this program!”
-Crystal Lalonde, MD, MPH, class of 2019
