Salary:
All residents within a given post graduate year receive the same salary. Salaries are pro-rated for part-time and partial-year appointments. The salary rate for AY2025-2026 is as follows:
PGY1 $69,041
PGY2 $72,033
PGY3 $74,969
Time Away:
Vacation - 20 business days a year
Continued Medical Education - five days per year

Aspirus Wausau Family Medicine Residency Program Application Process
The Aspirus Wausau Family Medicine Residency Program participates in the National Residency Matching Program (NRMP). (ACGME #: 1205621350 / NRMP #: 2262120C2). Look for WiNC GME or Wisconsin Northern & Central GME Consortium”
Applications will be accepted through Electronic Residency Application System (ERAS). Invitations to interview will be sent via Thalamus September-December.
Eligibility Criteria:
U.S. Graduates:
Graduate of a medical school in the United States or Canada accredited by the Liaison Committee on Graduate Medical Education (LCME) – OR - Graduate of a college of osteopathic medicine in the United States accredited by the American Osteopathic Association (AOA).
Receive medical degree within the last 2 years -OR- have been in an accredited residency program within the last 18 months -OR- have previously completed an accredited residency.
Pass USMLE/COMLEX Steps 1 and 2 within 2 attempts each and within 3 years.
Permanent resident or citizen of the United States.
International Medical School Graduates:
Hold a valid certificate from the Education Council on Foreign Medical Graduates (ECFMG) before the start of residency – OR - have a full and unrestricted license to practice medicine in a United States licensing jurisdiction in which they are training.
Complete rigorous US clinical experience as a medical student. Observerships and externships do not count towards this requirement.
Receive medical degree within the last 2 years -OR- have been in an accredited residency program within the last 18 months -OR- have previously completed an accredited residency.
Pass USMLE Steps 1 and 2 within 2 attempts each and within 3 years.
Permanent resident or citizen of the United States.
Additional Information:
All applicants must post a passing USMLE or COMLEX Step 2 score prior to rank day (but can interview if test is still pending).
Not currently able to sponsor visas.
Applications will be viewed on a rolling basis.
Interviews will begin in October and end in January.
How We Use Signaling:
The Aspirus Wausau Family Medicine residency uses the ERAS “signal” as our initial screen in the application process. All applicants that signal will receive close review. Applicants that signal the residency are highly likely (not guaranteed) to receive an interview with our residency program, especially if they are meeting our internal quality standards. We invite applicants to signal us on ERAS if they are genuinely interested in highly ranking our residency program.
